To be a sponsor, you must:

• Be at least 16 years of age.

• Be someone other than the parent of the catechumen/candidate.

• Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

• Complete diocesan required training

• Have received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist.

• (Preferably) be a registered member of the parish.

• (Preferably) be someone other than the spouse or significant other of the catechumen/candidate. </aside>

Sponsor Requirements

Complete Training:

• First, see Rene for a short in-person training
• Then, complete your ➡️ Virtus training
  • Anti-Harassment module
  • Vulnerable Adults module
  • For first-time registrants:
    • Click on first-time registrant
    • Fill in the background check information and review code of conduct
    • Once finished, Notre Dame will assign the training modules for you to complete
  • Existing users, log in using your credentials
  • The church office has computers for use if needed
• Download and read the OCIA Handbook, below.

Turn into Rene, Joyce, or Gavin the following:

• Proof of the Sacraments of Initiation: a copy of your Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation certificates

• Marriage certificate (if applicable)
